Pharmacy Division


Introduction

The Pharmacy Division provides services such as controlling inventory, dispensing drugs, preparing injections (including aseptic mixtures for chemotherapy), collecting and disseminating drug information, therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmaceutical management and counseling, and managing investigational new drugs. At the hospital, there are 2 Board-certified oncology pharmacy specialists who of the process of organizing educational programs such as training courses for residents, oncology pharmacist trainees, and university students of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The residents’ training course was launched in 2006. The division admitted 6 residents in 2007. Currently, the Division has 9 residents. The objective of the residency program is to provide knowledge regarding the techniques of basic pharmacy and clinical oncology. During the program, the residents are imparted on-the-job- training, including rotation to several sections including the Pharmacy Division, the Outpatient Treatment Center, and the wards.

New Developments

The services of the Pharmacy division were extended further.
Since June 2007, all aseptic preparations for chemotherapy are prepared in the safety cabinet of the Pharmacy division on a daily basis.
In September 2007, an overnight on-call system was set up in the pharmacy.
The division cooperates with the Psycho-Oncology Division and other divisions.
The division accepted 13 oncology pharmacist trainees divided over the 3 quarters in 2007. The project is supported by the Japanese Society of Hospital Pharmacists.
