Research Activities

Approximately 15% of human cancers have a viral etiology, and six viruses have been elucidated to be associated with human cancers. Among them, research in the Virology Division is focused on the molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis by the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is most frequently associated with cervical cancers and also with some skin and head and neck cancers. Our study also covers the DNA replication machinery in mammalian cells and stem cell biology.
