The rat zitter (zi) mutation induces hypomyelination and vacuolation in the central nervous system (CNS) that result in early-onset tremor and progressive flaccid paresis. By positional cloning and a subsequent transgenic rescue experiment, we identified zi as an 8-bp deletion at a splice donor site of Attractin gene (T. Kuramotoet al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 98, 559-564 (2001).).
