Tokyo – June 7th, 2017- The National Cancer Center (NCC) hosted a delegation representing the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran, together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Dr Hitoshi Nakagama, NCC President, welcomed the group at the meeting, where cancer control in Japan was discussed.

Since a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Ministers Hashemi and Shiozaki in 2015, cooperation in the healthcare arena between the two nations is gaining force. The delegation, invited by JICA, was on a visit to Japan to explore further areas of cooperation. Specialists from the center introduced cancer registration, cancer control, cancer screening, and cancer statistics, all which underpin cancer control policies in Japan. The delegation also toured the genome sequencing laboratory.

The NCC, having been established as a collaborating centre by WHO’s arm for cancer, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) last month, will reinforce activities to strengthen cancer control in wider Asia.
