C8 Tokyo 2026: Advancing Cancer Research through Global Collaboration
October 28, 2026
National Cancer Center Japan (NCCJ) was honored to host the C8 Tokyo 2026: International Symposium from October 18 to 20, 2026, bringing together researchers and leaders from leading cancer centers around the world. A total of 40 participants from C8 consortium institutions, including 32 from overseas, took part in the symposium.
The C8 Consortium was established to foster collaboration among its member cancer centers and advance cancer research and cancer care worldwide.
Under the theme “Diverse Perspectives, One Mission,” the symposium provided a forum to share recent advances in cancer research and discuss challenges and opportunities from diverse scientific and organizational perspectives. The scientific program covered a broad range of areas, including innovative approaches to cancer therapeutics, immuno-oncology, artificial intelligence in cancer therapy and drug development, and the use of real-world data in cancer research and care.
Beyond the scientific discussions, the program placed a strong emphasis on the people and institutional connections that drive international research collaboration. The Leadership Career Journey session offered participants opportunities to hear about research and leadership careers, while discussions among the C8 leaders explored the future direction of the consortium and opportunities for ongoing and potential collaboration.
The symposium also incorporated team-building activities, along with cross-institutional but shared professionality group work, designed to encourage interaction beyond individual institutions. Building on the scientific exchange throughout the symposium, participants identified shared expertise and interests and explored new possibilities for future joint research.
The inspiring 2.5-day symposium concluded with lively exchanges and stronger connections across the C8 community.
By bringing together diverse scientific expertise, perspectives, and experiences in Tokyo, C8 Tokyo 2026 not only deepened scientific exchange but also strengthened the relationships that will help shape future collaboration across the consortium.
