Introduction

The Human Resources Development Center plans and manages human resources development such as career paths for each occupation and acquisition of professional qualifications, and builds training courses to acquire the specialized knowledge and skills required for cancer treatment. By planning workshops and coordinating job rotation, we aim to improve the medical care level of the entire hospital and community medical staff, and to educate the general public.

The Team and What We Do

1. Career paths were created to build a human resources development system that realizes advanced medical care and research for cancer. In order to support the acquisition of qualifications for each department, we provided support for the acquisition of the ones they each require. The number of cases of qualification acquisition support in 2021 was 54, but the number of cases of actual acquisition was only 39, mainly due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic and state of emergency.

2. Regarding job rotation for hospital staff (internal rules), in order to deal with the chronic shortage of human resources in areas such as medical information, research support, and ethical review in the hospital, we created and started operating job rotation rules (IRB from the pharmacy department). (Secretariat: one person; IRB Secretariat from the Radiation Technology Department: one person; Clinical Research Coordinator Office from the Clinical Laboratory Department: one person).

3. We planned and implemented a briefing session for residents who wish to apply, a NEXT symposium, etc. In addition, a briefing session support system (internal rules) for academic societies was created and put into operation. In 2021, almost everything was done online.

4. In 2021, training was given to a total of 62 people, including 17 cancer specialists, 35 regular resident courses, 3 short-term resident courses, 1 cancer specialist pharmacists, and 6 pharmacist residents.

5. The medical physicist residency program continued, and application and selection tests were conducted. There were more applications than the capacity, and we decided to hire three applicants as residents in 2022.

6. A radiation technician residency program was started, and we hired two residents for 2022.

7. A work conference was held once a month for collaborative graduate students to provide degree research guidance. Eight collaborative graduate students got their medical degrees in 2021.

8. We started an overseas training support system and decided to support four staff members, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no one could carry out overseas training and it was postponed to 2021. We are now considering whether to run an additional application cycle, while checking the situation in 2021.

9. We held English conversation training and Chinese language courses to improve the language proficiency of medical staff.

10.  Monthly instructor liaison meetings were started to examine problems regarding the guidance of specialists. We accepted trainees and students (285 in total).

11. educational seminars and lectures on resident guidance methods.

Future Prospects

1. At present, the types of work that the Human Resources Development Center can be involved in are still limited, so we will get an understanding of the situation regarding securing human resources in a wider range of occupations, identify problems, and actively provide information accordingly. We would like to build a system that aims to secure excellent human resources by disseminating information.

2. In order to contribute to the internationalization of hospitals, we would like to cooperate not only with domestic facilities but also with overseas facilities, and strengthen efforts and human resources development with a view to securing international human resources.

3. In the Human Resources Development Center, we develop staff with expertise in our center’s work.
