As part of the Clinical Research Support Office at the National Cancer Center Hospital, our main work is supporting oncologists to plan and conduct investigator-initiated registration-directed clinical trials.
In addition, we assist in supporting various kinds of clinical research, such as patient-proposed healthcare services (PPHS) and research under ethical guidelines. In Japan, conducting clinical research requires adherence to applicable regulations, such as laws and guidelines.
It is important to understand each regulation correctly in order to conduct the research properly. The challenge is to conduct safe and meaningful research for patients.
For this reason, we strive to accumulate knowledge and experience to offer proper research support. As part of my current work, I am in charge of coordinating office of BELIEVE Trial. BELIEVE Trial was launched in 2019 under PPHS to provide treatment opportunities using off-label drugs for patients undergoing CGP testing. As of January 2025, approximately 800 patients have already registered and received off-label drug treatments. Our trial serves as a part of the foundations to access off-label drugs properly under National Health Insurance system in Japan.

We aim to create a collaborative space
where everyone can contribute to the development of cancer treatment.

BELIEVE Trial has already been running for five years since its initiation. Amidst the significant changes in Japan's pharmaceutical regulations, we are managing this trial while constantly considering what kind of trial would be ideal to improve access to treatments for cancer patients.
At the National Cancer Center Hospital, we aim to develop treatments for cancer patients by conducting various clinical research projects beyond clinical trials, such as BELIEVE Trial, Master Key Project and the ATLAS Project.
Through The FUTURE Project, we hope to connect with more people and make progress in the development of treatments for cancer patients.
We, as healthcare professionals, will not only take the lead, but will also collaborate with many others to develop treatments for cancer patients. It would be ideal if The FUTURE Project could become such a space. Our mission, as part of clinical research support team in the healthcare field, is to seriously take the supportive sentiments of those who wish to contribute to cancer treatment, and to advance cancer research with their support. We will strive even harder to advance cancer research, aiming to contribute to the development of cancer treatments.
