Research on health inequalities using nationally representative data

Reducing health inequalities is an important global issue supported by careful monitoring and assessment. However, evidence about health inequalities and their cause-specific contributions has been scarce in East Asian countries (e.g. Japan and Korea). We investigate socioeconomic inequalities in health in Japan using nationally representative data.

Data linkage study

We aim to investigate the relationship between socioeconomic status (educational background, occupation) and mortality rate in Japan by linking individual data from the national census and vital statistics.

Comprehensive analysis of health inequalities in Japan using the Comprehensive Survey of Living Conditions and the National Health and Nutrition Survey

Data from the Comprehensive Survey of Living Conditions and the National Health and Nutrition Survey is used to analyze the patterns of health inequalities and the magnitude of health inequalities.

International comparative study between Japan and other countries

Based on the research above, we are conducting international comparative studies on the characteristics of health inequalities in Japan compared to those in other high-income countries.
