G7 Cancer Working Group Publishes a Meeting Report on Poor-Prognosis Cancers

In Japanese

A review article summarizing international discussions on poor-prognosis cancers has been published in the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery Open as part of the G7 Cancer initiative, in which the National Cancer Center Japan (NCCJ) participates. The article is based on discussions at the G7 Cancer Conference in June, entitled “Poor Prognosis Cancers: from Resignation to Revolution.” NCCJ co-hosts Working Group 2 of G7 Cancer on poor-prognosis cancers together with the French National Cancer Institute (INCa).

The article argues for moving beyond a paradigm of resignation toward a collective transformation in tackling poor-prognosis cancers. Discussions highlighted four interdependent pillars: precision medicine supported by multi-omic profiling and artificial intelligence; early detection and minimal residual disease monitoring using liquid biopsy and advanced imaging; innovative and adaptive clinical trial designs; and emerging therapeutic platforms, including nanomedicine, epigenetic therapies, and immune modulation. The report emphasizes that these scientific advances must be combined with harmonized infrastructures, equitable access to care, and international cooperation to form a new model of global cancer governance aimed at improving patient survival.

This publication highlights the importance of shared understanding and sustained international dialogue in addressing poor-prognosis cancers, which remain a major global challenge. NCCJ will continue to contribute to the advancement of cancer research and care through international collaboration, including the G7 Cancer framework.
